NATIONAL DIRECTOR -
SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA FAMILY ENRICHMENT (SAFE)
Based in Zomba with national travel
SAFE-Africa Board of Directors and SAFE Board of Trustees seek to recruit a National Director to provide strategic leadership and operational management, in a true servant-leader fashion, to the SAFE team for the fulfillment of SAFE’s mission and programmatic objectives.
What is SAFE
SAFE is a Christ-centered NGO, based in Malawi, with a mission to “change lives in vulnerable communities as we share God’s love and truth in words and actions.” It has a multi-generational ministry to the young and old, through three distinct but synergistic programs:
1) Why Wait? Truth for Youth program and Youth Development activities, including Biblically-based life skills training in schools and clubs, teen parent support groups, and mentoring/tutoring and scholarship programs.
2) Early Childhood Development through community-based child care centers and parental training – to develop the learning abilities & holistic health of children, 0-8 years old.
3) Gogo Grandparent Support, including spiritual training, psycho-social support, and physical assistance – to improve the well-being of grandparents and enable them to effectively care for vulnerable children.
Job purpose
Operational Leadership of SAFE’s programs in Malawi in accordance with SAFE Christian mission values, good management practice and organisational policies and systems.
Implement and further develop SAFE’S strategy and programs in line with its Christian vision, mission, values and principles within agreed strategies and organisational priorities across Malawi.

Qualifications and Attributes
1. Spiritual Values
I. A personal relationship with Jesus Christ that is vital and growing, that is visible in one’s family, community/church and workplace
II.Possesses a Biblical worldview (consistent with Romans 12:2 and with the spiritual and philosophical foundations of the SAFE ministry) and demonstrated commitment to holistic ministry, as evidenced in one’s vocational work or extra-curricular activities
III. A clear sense of “calling” to work with SAFE and carry out its mission and vision
IV. Experience in Christian leadership and/or teaching
2. Qualifications
i. Masters degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience
ii. Evidence of management and leadership training /education and experience
3. Skills and Experience
i. Visionary, with demonstrated success operationalizing a vision and strategy into service delivery
ii. Excellence as a team-builder and servant-leader
iii. At least five years in a senior position leading an organization (or major unit within an organization) with multiple projects.
iv. Verifiable experience in leading formulation of program strategy and casting vision.
v. Proven ability to develop robust program implementation plans with clear milestones
vi. Experience leading a diverse team including supporting teams to initiate and implement organization change.
vii. Demonstrable evidence of program and administrative operations management.
viii. Significant experience in financial management and budgeting
ix. Experience of performance management including mentoring, capability and disciplinary.
x. Strong evidence of commitment to excellence and ability to manage for results
xi. Successful problem-solver, with strong critical thinking skills, and able to forge organizational consensus to move forward
xii. Effective multi-level communicator, with excellent written and oral communication skills.
xiii. Experience in storytelling and report writing
xiv. Experience in fundraising
xv. Experience in external networking and organizational representation
xvi. Highly organized and able to manage diverse demands and still meet deadlines
xvii. Experience of consultation, negotiation and influencing various multi-level audiences.
xviii. Broad experience of service planning and project management
xix. Innovative; able to “think outside the box” and continuously open to new ways to do things better.
xx. Experience of managing and maintaining effective relationships with a variety of stakeholders, ability to build alliances and networks
xxi. Demonstrable ability to balance competing priorities in a dynamic environment
xxii. Success in fundraising, including proposal writing, in ECD/CCBC or other areas relevant to SAFE’s program objectives
4. Knowledge
i. Knowledge of performance management, monitoring and evaluation, and sound fiscal management principles
ii. Why Wait? program and Christian based Youth Development activities
iii. Early Childhood Development, through community-based child care centers and parental training
iv. Gogo Grandparent Support, including spiritual training, psycho-social support, and physical assistance.
